I am writing on my own here, but in some senses on behalf of others who are also quite busy. I just feel at this moment very close to my brothers and sisters in Nigeria, Cameroon, India, USA, Gambia and all those who I do not yet know, and especially a brother near Gaza who is desperately trying to get in to render medical assistance.
Jocelyn Jones, Tom Lines and myself met today to discuss ways forward for World Family, how we can incorporate ourselves to raise funds, what activities we are engaged in, and in a very healthy regard approached the question of what is World Family?
At the most fundamental level it is the connection we feel to each other, especially now I have met the majority of our members in Nigeria and made a life-long friend in Cameroon in as dramatic a fashion as I made in Brighton October/November 2007 with Seinde.
We are continuing this work in preparation for what recent connections we have and are making bring forth, which we hope will be much more activity here, stronger links with the land and people working on the land locally, as well as our desire to strengthen the channels of communication with Africa. We cannot promise anything, but we are more and more focussed on the task of making World family connections stronger and more productive.
I have personally written three versions of what I think World Family is, but until we have moved further along they will not appear here.
For those who are new to this forum and meeting place I will shortly be uploading some of the papers that were used in the December Festival at OAU Ile-Ife after I have scanned them in and edited the text. I also hope to improve the slide show but I have not had much time. I have not even listened to the sound files for the same reason, but if there are any that work well in sound I will upload them eventually.
One of our first tasks here is to raise funds to continue making the documentary that Caspar has begun and to fund a UK road show which we hope will raise awareness, more funding, and make some very important connections.
That's it for now. We have not forgotten the need to raise funds for your activities in Nigeria and Cameroon, but I am not about to make any promises I can't keep. We are all fairly new to fund-raising and that is why certain new connections are important to follow up.
Blessings to all,
Louis, Brighton Chapter.
