Hi Casper,
A little abstract about Better World Cameroon.
Using local knowledge, science Permaculture, Horticulture and
African Culture to improve sustainable agricultural practice and food sovereignty.

ABSTRACT
The objective of NCGP is to share lessons and experiences on assessing how permaculture, horticulture and agro forestry could be used in promoting sustainable land use and development.
Introduction
About Better World Cameroon
In 1996 the association of unemployed workers in Cameroon made up of graduates and non graduates registered Better World Cameroon (BWC) as an NGO in order to begin a process of dealing with rising unemployment and environmental degradation.
BWC uses NCGP as a kind of grassroots agency which addresses her ambition to find ways to increase practical know-how in developing land use skills and capacity in youths and to raise levels of innovation and collaboration across youth networks. NCGP also investigates into the role indigenous knowledge systems, vacant lot community organic gardening/community tree nurseries can play in advancing learning, good practice, motivation and the improved application of recognised modern farming techniques.
NCGP has come like a beacon light of hope to millions of displaced unemployed youth in Cameroon cities who came in search of work and who are suffering in misery and poverty due to the deepening economic recession and rising food crisis.
NCGP focuses on the unchanging African values of unity and solidarity to spur the pursuit of greater environmental and social sustainability within the youth. We use our small scale agro/forestry programmes to train youth to willingly take small holder community gardening and tree planting as a vocation and undertake projects which promote food sovereignty and protect the environment.
History
Elders in plantation farming in Cameroon are rapidly ageing and under the pressure of the life of small holder farmer turned subsistent farmer young people feel the government is not doing enough to encourage young people to under take farming careers.
Goal
Our gaol is to use NCGP to mobilise and sensitize graduates and non graduates to realise our re-conceptualised organic gardening programs are rewarding vocations for youth livelihoods and the environment. Our agro gardening and forestry programs consists of small holder micro projects which any reasonable young person can be proud of, that will enable him/her to live a fulfilling and creative live, earn the respect of the society and him/her self too and be able to raise a decent family within the framework of dignified work.
It is our firm believe that through our skills training and capacity building, young people can effectively embark on the struggle to save our continent from total degradation and serve as a platform for sustainable food production and best practices that respect the environment.

Changes occurring in our community as a result of our work
Ndanifor has been offering a range of value-added activities, including: holding workshops and open dialogues on core environmental and global issues affecting the lives of young people in Cameroon; engaging in youth partnership agro forestry/organic gardening projects; and providing guidance on communication on progress to our newly created national Youth Development for Peace (YDP) Network. An alternative development culture is emerging for displaced young people in Yaounde who were dependent upon foraging for subsistence through violence and crime.
BWC’s activities since 1996 have brought new hope of health, happiness and personal development to slum dwellers in the project area community, lifting their spirits and harnessing their creative potential for sustainable development. This has been done through activities of organic food growing, community tree growing and promoting a clean environment as a basis for sustainable development.
This work is increasing the level of public awareness of, and support for, cultural and biological diversity. This is essential in both the short and long term for the attainment of the millennium Goals (MDGs) in Cameroon and meeting the targets of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) by 2010.
The growing success of the Ndanifor Community Garden Project as a Youth Development platform has begun to gain international interest as a charity has been registered in the UK (Ndanifor Gardens UK Trust. Registration No 1117878 to support its work in the future trokki@phonecoop.coop
The US embassy is supporting the securing of the Ndanifor Community garden from floods so it can be opened as a research centre. All these actions can have a lasting impact on youth livelihoods elsewhere.
Our Module is a replicable idea?
An urban community garden and resource centre is a very replicable idea. We intend to document much of our activities as demonstration projects in order to educate other communities on how they can replicate this idea. In order to successfully replicate this model, interested communities would need to come forth and be committed to developing their own community gardens and similar projects. However, we are committed to supporting the replication of Ndanifor Community Garden concept throughout Africa and beyond by sharing our story and our methodology.

Hey Caspar,

How you goin fella? I hear you guys sent Passing Clouds CRAZY for Abs' birthday - I was so gutted to miss it.

We need to get Abigail on the whole food sovreignty festival idea - there's the potential of holding it at her dad's farm next summer and she would put on an amazing party! but if we want to make it have a serious food sovreignty message etc we'd need to get planning. Might be good to do it through Transition? I could speak to Rob and Peter about it.

Hope to see you soon - we need to get you that gig in Bristol - or just get you guys out for a camping mission South West in the land.

Go well x

Hi Caspar-not sure if you recieve direct messages from me so leaving them here.
We have decided to have an event on or around the 26th January. This will be organised by myself. We have decided that your idea is a good one.
I wondered if you have any venues in mind and also if moving sounds would be into doing some music or some kind of performance.

Hi Seinde.
I hope the quietness on the group site is a moment of study and preparation for others as it is for me. I am still studying the 6 documents you sent me, but as you may have noticed I posted a video from a site called T.E.D (http://www.ted.com/) which addresses many issues to do with the future of this planet.

This link, along with others, was given to me by Chissie's husband who has, as I think I mentioned, just retired as course leader of Three Dimensional Design and Materials Practice after many years at Brighton University, and he is now part-time at doing only the things that interest him as research projects, one of which is a collaboration between Brighton Academics AND Students and those at Shristi University in Bangalore (led by Arvind Lodaya) concerning the maintenance of ancient arts and crafts which are the mainstay of probably something like 300 Million non-industrialised workers, in other words those who remain once you account for the 400 million smallholders that you have mentioned who could lose their lands to the "New Maharajas" of Agro-industry by the year 2020. The link to the Brighton University page outlining this research is: http://cetld.brighton.ac.uk/projects/current-projects/design-and-indian-traditional-village-manufacturing

Although it is not concerned with food sovereignty as such, there are obvious correlations, not the least of which is that they are as dependent, and may even be in some cases the same families, as the small-holders.

Chris Rose (that's why we call his wife Chrissie) is visiting Bangalore in February to advance the project further, and he is one of my guests on the next Vision Shack along with James Tijou who is working on parallel projects that, if successful, will also affect us all.

Both these men are potential trailblazers in the development of ways and means to protect everything from traditional small cottage industry "economies" to the sovereignty of consciousness (an example of which is the "virtual plebiscite" based upon internet technology that took place in Brazil led by Agosto Boal using theatre to change 13 NATIONAL LAWS - this is part of James' plan).

I do not wish to distract World Family from the main task of Food Sovereignty, but all these projects (and many others of which I am becoming aware through T.E.D and other sources) are concerned with Participatory Development, which is why the next Vision Shack will be about Participatory Development.

This, along with the re-birthing of Healthy Concerts, is also a part of my contribution to the future, and I do not know how long or in what manner I will be fulfilling my part in the Seminars you spoke of, but I feel the need to talk to both Caspar and Moving Sounds to gain more intelligence that can assist me in moving on this responsibility, as well as using my academic contacts and others in the UK to present the result to young people, trainee farmers, smallholders in trouble over here (for superficially different reasons, but they all add up to greedy giants making money) and so on.

I have many ideas like contacting farmer's associations and unions and tapping into or promoting inter-continental farming groups.

As you can imagine this is a lot of work, so I am going to paste this forum to both Caspar and Moving Sounds (and also members of the Brighton Branch who are meeting at Jocelyn's on Friday 30th afternoon, folowed by a proposed Healthy Concert for World Family that evening - so that all members can be thinking about all the issues involved, alongside your excellent summary of our first meeting and others and Nadia's notes from that meeting).

I also ask anyone reading who can assist me to get in contact. I also ask you all to listen to the program if you can, or if not send me by private message an address I can send a CD of the (new) program to - I have already handed out about 35-40 copies of the interview and discussion we did on 8th November at RadioReverb.

Sorry to be so verbose, but as you can see there are a lot of connections and possibilities, and I want to ensure that we reach an over all strategy so that we are like the bunch of twigs that cannot be broken.

Love, Honour and Respect to all,
Louis Loizou.
