An Introduction to World Family Group for Visitors & Link to The New World Family Website

Dear visitor, welcome to World Family Group - We use this space to communicate, pass news, share ideas and plan our meetings and work. It is like our global family kitchen table (or perhaps in Nigeria 'The Big Tree') and you may find the conversations difficult to follow.

Therefore, as a first point of call please visit the new site at: http://myworldfamily.org/

One of the founding members of World Family has just completed the new website and it may develop further as time passes. There is a forum there also as we feel that it may serve a purpose for the expanding horizons of our World Family, and more pages may be appearing over the coming days and weeks as some of the featured members are working flat out with a great endeavour that is rapidly growing in pace and strength, day by day, week by week.

The new website offers a clearer, immediate threshold understanding of what World Family is and does. If you are new here you may find the complex weave of forum items, profiles, views, messages, newsletter postings and articles confusing. When you have explored the myworldfamily site please feel free to come back, and if you wish to, join our group, create a profile and tell us about your vision for the world, share your views and add your talents & efforts to our global initiative.

The new website is easily navigable and contains defining statements from our founder Dr. Makuanjola Olaseinde Arigbede (Seinde) in written form and on video. We are a World Family, not any kind of incorporated organisation, a grass-roots movement of people in Africa, The UK, the USA and India (so far) who are working in stages towards a huge awareness-raising and motivating celebration in South-West Nigeria this year between the dates November 23rd to 29th.

This World family Group - Introduction
World Family is inspired by Olaseinde Arigbede (Seinde) - respected doctor, neuroscientist and smallholder in Nigeria. We come together to take action to create a world where all have access to that necessary for a life of dignity and fulfilment.

Our first task is to alert people in as great numbers as we can to the need for food security for all. We call this Food Sovereignty and it is urgently needed particularly in the Southern Hemisphere where we have recently seen protests and riots in many countries because of the dangerous rises in food prices in just one year. Many factors have contributed to this, but some of those under human control include the stealing of land from indigenous peoples by Trans-national Corporations (TNCs) for profit - and this means the growing of cash crops like bio-fuels, sugar and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) which are damaging the environment, bankrupting smallholder farmers and now depriving millions of people of affordable foods, some of whom were already spending 90% of their income on food alone.

The full title of our first mission is expressed by the words Food Sovereignty, and unless you are already involved in this field it may be hard to fully appreciate its importance and the dangers associated in allowing either governments or the agricultural industry free reign over natural resources. Again we refer you to our new site which will offer explanations and links to more resources: http://myworldfamily.org/

Food Sovereignty is a deep subject which includes the misuse of land, forests & fisheries that should be cared for by its peoples - for example the turning over of land to the production of biofuels rather than food by the agro-industry; the imposition of Intellectual Property (IP) rights on biological matter - such as seeds and particular strains of staples like maize; the tying of these IPs into Trade Agreements, sometimes almost invisibly or through the back door; the selling of "Terminator Seeds" to poor farmers - these are "mules" that have been specifically bred or genetically modified not to produce fertile seeds at the end of the growing cycle, so the farmers have to buy the expensive seeds all over again.

GMOs were, as an example, responsible for the failure of recent cotton crops on the Indian Sub-Continent - they were sold as being resistant to the bowl worm, a parasite which destroys the cotton, but while they might work in perfect laboratory conditions they failed in the fields. Many Indian farmers have committed suicide because they cannot feed their families.

In order to avoid the complexity of Food Sovereignty clouding the issue click here to go to our new official website: http://myworldfamily.org/ for a simple overview in both written words and quotes and on a video of Seinde made by Moving Sounds. Below the music you are listening to (player to your left) there is also an interview of Seinde on RadioReverb in Brighton last November in two contiguous parts.

For a statement from a conference of Farmers and NGOs at the Nyeleni forum in Mali last year which contains the most comprehensive summary of six points on Food Sovereignty please go to the Forum Item called NEWSLETTER and scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will find an uploaded attachment of the document produced from that important conference.

Once again, you can find the new World Family website at:http://myworldfamily.org/

My Thoughts on the 2008 Presidential Campaign

The 2008 Presidential Campaign By Frank T. Scruggs, M.A., Ph.D. Candidate May 2008 Needless to say, the 2008 campaign for the Presidency of the United States is an unprecedented historical event. In this particular race, the campaign itself has come to be a symbolic race of the previously disenfranchised; blacks and women to the pinnacle of government leadership. The image of the President of the United States has moved beyond a white males only club to a genuinely open contest. The ascension… Continue

The Perception Black Men in North America

The Perception Black Men in North America Frank T. Scruggs, M.A., Ph.D. Candidate April 2008 What’s going on with Black Men, today? Among the social problems contributing to dismal statistics are racism, a decline of manufacturing jobs, faulty school systems, lack of parenting and other systemic issues that need to be addressed. One perception is that Black men are endangered; often portrayed as criminals, rapists and brutes. In truth, what are Black men really like? Well, we are sure that ET… Continue
